Assessment of People with Dementia
It can be difficult to make an assessment of a person with dementia if they live alone. Their account may not be reliable, and information from relatives and neighbours may be based on limited knowledge. It is not unusual for incidents to be exaggerated because people think that “something should be done”.
Just Checking provides objective information and builds a more comprehensive picture of a person’s capabilities in their own home. People with dementia may still be holding on to long-ingrained daily routines. The system helps with the scheduling of appropriate care, so that independence is supported and not undermined with unnecessary visits. Practitioners say that it gives the person with dementia a new means to communicate their capabilities and real “voice” in the planning of their care.
